Hero by WHODARESWINS is a charismatic and powerful rock track with a tonne of different influences that create its poetic cocktail of genres that make up its personality. Opening with this psychedelic intro, the track hits you like a tonne of bricks right from the opening. It washes over the listener, immediately immersing you into the depths of the track’s sound with this miasma of different sonic attributes. This rich tapestry continues evolving throughout the project. As the psychedelic haze fades, the rock core of the track shines through.

The guitar was the first aspect which stood out to me. It has this constantly evolving timbre that stays true to the tracks core melodic through line despite its constant changes. As it first appears, the strumming has a crisp and clear timbre, giving the song a different style of confidence and injecting the piece with energy. The timbre in this section feels shiny and bright, reminding me of driving down sunbleached roads without a care in the world. Even though this song clearly has a narrative core, I think it would also make an excellent carefree road trip track. It is the mark of a great piece of music that you can engage with the song on whichever level you’d prefer. If you want a deep and meaningful track, the lyrics are there for you but if you want to sit and let the guitar wash over you, the melody can also deliver. The balance between these two attributes is what makes the project so special. As the track continues, the guitar takes on more of the psychedelic properties of the opening with a heavy emphasis on reverb, dulling that shiny timbre ever so slightly to provide the track a tonal variety that elevates each individual tone. Overall, this track excels in its sonic appeal and its narrative depth. The video is also a strong point which I’ve added below. Make sure to check it out!
