Holy by JACRE is an emotive and deeply personal exploration of love, nature, and peace. The artist describes the track as focusing on quiet rebellion and this feels like the perfect description. The song has a refined and subtle confidence. The vocals are the leading element that dictate the tone. They are whispery and quiet while still expressing the powerful nature of the song. The gravelly crackle in the voice is brilliant, adding to the earthy feeling of the track overall. The muted guitar plucking immerses the listener deeper into the music.

Together the two elements lean into the genre of acoustic indie folk. They also leave a lot of room for the piece to expand and grow. The song’s evolution surprised me. This track focuses on stripping back. This concept is core to its identity so part of me expected it to simply focus on that aspect in the melody as well as the narrative. I was pleasantly surprised by the use of other string instruments and harmonies coming in towards the middle of the song. These aspects added depth to the track’s sonic tapestry and amplified the overall experience with a textural richness. It felt like watching the track morph and develop as I listened. This choice was completely dependent on the subtle opening. This shows the level of foresight and cohesion in the piece’s creative expression. The secondary vocal connects the piece back to this theme of love, it works brilliantly as a juxtaposition to the depth of the lead vocal. It has a shiny, bright timbre and a more expressive vocal style. It feels like the lead vocal establishes a foundation that the harmonies can dance around, embellishing with vocal runs of their own while still being deeply connected. This track tried new things to great effect and evolved with its sound while still holding onto its themes. Check it out below.
