Above All The Ground by MILENA is a spiritual and emotionally resonant track exploring the concepts of benevolent love, kindness, and the joy of finding a guiding light in this complicated world. I’m really impressed by the restraint utilised in the production. Monsef Chebri from Sonic Brew Productions has done an excellent job in establishing and tone and sticking to it. There is a stripped back honesty to the production that really leans into a “less is more” philosophy. What they do accomplish however, is sleek, refined and incredibly crisp. The piano melody is flowing and reactive. You can feel it grow and evolve with the vocals, not simply underscoring their tone but embellishing and building on it with their contrast.

This mix of dissonance and harmony in certain sections throughout the piece gives the track an ever-evolving edge and firmly places the vocals in the pole position, leading the song. It feels like between the ebb and flow of dissonance and harmony, the vocals are a constant that the listener can follow like a guiding light throughout the mix. The vocals lead and the melody on the piano reacts. The delivery is dynamic and bold, sounding full and smooth in all the peaks and troughs of the varied and rich sonic tapestry of the song. I was really impressed by the way the vocalist expressed love and care through the subtleties in their vocal register. There is this mix of individuality and unity throughout the track that I feel relates to the use of harmonies overall. The main voice leads the track however in important moments the emphasis shifts to this unified harmony, creating these sonic tracers that follow the melody, bolstering it with pep and energy while deepening the emotional impact with their contrasting tone.

Overall, I’m thoroughly impressed with the stripped back and refined execution of this track. It relies on emotive and bold vocals and, through its confidence in the delivery, allows the narrative to shine through.
