AI Superstar By PIxelated is an energetic and confident EDM track with some K-Pop influences, exploring how AI will impact the music industry not just through the themes of the song’s narrative but also through the execution of the track. Every aspect of the song is created using some form of AI. This is incredibly new as a form of creativity and as a society we’re still drawing the lines around what that means. This concept is fleshed out in the lyrics as the lead singer describes breaking boundaries with her AI avatar. It is really cathartic to see the track’s narrative and execution be so closely tied in terms of theme. The track itself has a shiny, bright timbre and heavily utilises high register synths to fill out its sonic texture. They keep the track exciting as they evolve and change to match the pace.

AI Superstar manages to keep the pace high from beginning to end, propelling the listener through the track. As AI Superstar evolves, deeper bass and distorted electric guitar fill out the mix, adding energy and injecting the track with elements of sonic diversity. The concept of being entertained until the dawn that comes up in the lyrics is given extra depth through the AI angle the song takes. On top of being a fun and flirty line, it does speak to how AI is starting to draw our attention for longer and longer. This line depicts that change in a more interesting and personal way by allowing us to see it from the AI’s perspective, thrilled to keep us entertained until the morning with their energetic and confident dance music. Although the energy is a constant throughout the track, the production does allow for quiet, introspective moments. These sections allow the AI voice to truly shine and also provide juxtaposition to the bolder, more intense moments of the track. The quiet moments allow the audience to reflect on the song as a whole and also give it a deeply emotional undertone. I was impressed by this aspect because before listening, I wasn’t sure that AI would be capable of such subtle emotional expression. From the intonation to the cadence, the vocalist nails the delivery, shining particularly bright in these quiet moments.

AI Superstar is a totally different track and I have to commend PIxelated for boldly attempting to do something brand new. The execution is fantastic, showcasing confident energy and a surprising amount of subtle emotional awareness.
