Bottle Of Wine by BAYTREES is a charming, fun song about escapism. The track is very much led by the vocals, exploring a narrative of love and new beginnings with depth and intensity. The vocals capture your attention from start to finish and you get a sense of the emotion behind every word.

During the line “I just want to be the man who loves you” the emotional resonance of that moment of vulnerability feels so palpable and clear to the listener. With that being said, the vocals also convey the levity at the core of the track’s identity. At heart, this is a track about escape and fantasising about stripping life back to what matters: spending time with people you love. Although there are plenty of lines about being by the pool and other holiday imagery, it always comes back to this perfect person who is the muse of Bottle of Wine. In essence, she is the escape. Another aspect that stood out to me was the drumming, the crisp hiss of the drums underscored important moments within the narrative and melodic ideas within the song. It also adds to the energetic tone of the track, supplementing the power of the vocals. I love it when the melody and narrative of a song match up, creating this cohesive whole for the listener. The drumming helps establish this sense of cohesion by energising the track in key moments through its percussive power. The guitar was another aspect that stood out to me. The guitar establishes this smooth counter melody that bounces off the rhythm created by the drums. Beyond this, the guitar also builds this breezy chill energy into the composition, leading back to the holiday energy at the core of the track’s DNA. Overall, I’m impressed with this track’s singular vision and connection to this concept of escape. The execution is very impressive.
