Chair by ALEKSANDRA PICARIELLO is a powerful track drawing from pop, hip hop, and dance music to create a narrative that builds up from the lowest emotional ebb to find a new purpose and confidence. The chair from the title comes from an emotional moment of anger. PICARIELLO threw the chair against a wall at a low point and in that moment, they knew  they wanted to make a change. It is impactful to put these moments out there for others to see. When a track details someone’s struggles and the subsequent growth, it creates this beautiful, mutually beneficial experience. The artist gets a lot out of creating the music, the experience of putting something so complex into writing can make it feel real, separating it from themselves. Then, the final product of the song can help people going through similar emotional turmoil. It is this deeply personal, symbiotic connection that helps both the artist and the listener.

The vocal delivery is gentle and reserved while still communicating the layers of the narrative. It feels almost more like spoken word than it does hip hop. This gives the track a train of thought style that allows the listener to deeply connect with the narrative as if they are experiencing PICARIELLO’s organic thoughts. The orchestral strings were a welcome mix that changed up the pace of the track overall. The hip hop styling in the early section of the track got into a groove that was shaken up by the introduction of this alternative tonal style. It adds a new register to the composition and, to me, felt symbolic of the change at the core of the song’s identity. These strings are a moment of sonic growth which reflects the narrative growth PICARIELLO goes through over the course of the track. This song captures a precious moment of change in a person’s life and I believe we can all learn from its example of never giving up and getting up.
