God Ain't Through by ARCTIC WAVE is a brilliantly diverse and emotionally resonant track. The song blends hopeful and melancholic tones and funky R&B and indie rock to create a track that stands as a cut above both individual genres. The vocals were the first thing that stood out to me. They develop the narrative and connect the different tones of the song. They work almost like the guiding light of the song, drawing the listener in and immersing them within its melody. The subtle harmonies add further to the sonic depth. They trace around the lead vocal, following them closely and emphasising their depth and grit with their comparatively ethereal tone.

It gives the track a unifying tone and encourages the listener to sing along, as they feel like a part of the music. This harmony also feels tonally connected to the concept of god at the narrative core. It almost feels like these harmonies represent the presence of god, elevating the song. I love the connection between narrative and melody. This use of harmony is an excellent example of this. The guitar is another strong suit. It takes many different forms during the track, including strumming, contributing to the rhythm and melody simultaneously. The bright and shiny timbre of the guitar in these sections also helps to establish the hopeful aspects in the tone. There is also an excellent guitar musical break in the latter third of the track. This section felt like a true tonal shift, expressing the track’s evolving genre and melody. This change was an excellent evolution of the sonic tapestry of the track, exploring the highs and lows of its register. It also gives the listener time to reflect on the narrative the piece has established up until that point. It also shows the musical diversity of ARCTIC WAVE. This track excels in the highs and lows equally well, and that varied tone is what makes us so excited to see what they do next.
