Happy Monday by RICHARD GREEN redefines how people think of Monday mornings with an impassioned guitar tune that inspires and energises like a shot of espresso. It’s the perfect antidote to the Monday morning blues. Green’s philosophy in music is about creating upbeat and positive anthems and in this track he’s possibly tackled the hardest theme to turn into a positive.

The famously bleak Monday morning is the bane of many workers' existence, lurking at the end of Sunday like a dark cloud. The way Green turns this around is by making Monday full of opportunity, encouraging the listener to get out there and make the best of the week that they can. The track is recorded across Europe, with the guitar recorded in London and the bass and drums recorded in Italy. I think a bit of that sun bleached, carefree, Italian attitude has snuck into the track. There is a steeze and rhythmic charisma to the bass and drums that captures that Italian charm. The drums add as much to the timbre of the track as they do to the rhythm. However, they are not the only force developing the track’s rhythm. Several guitar elements also contribute. As you would expect, the bass sets a foundation that aids the rhythm but also up strums are used on the guitar side to create this beautiful counter rhythm that provides contrast for the drums to bounce off. These interacting layers of rhythm and counter rhythm are even more impressive when you realise they weren’t recorded together, so the drums and bass’ rhythm were methodically intertwined with the counter-rhythm created by the guitar. Props to the production for making this sound so natural and effortless. The layers of guitar really need to be heard to be understood. The lead is so expressive and the foundational strumming behind it puts wind in the track’s sails, together creating this wall of sound that energises the listener from beginning to end.
