I Found A Monster by SETH SCHAEFFER is a deep and grungey dark pop project with heavy rock influences that define its unique sound. The track conveys a level of power which is hard to come across in modern music. I’m thoroughly impressed with its confidence and commitment to its tone, as well as its style. Despite the weight of the title, this is an inherently positive track, about breaking beyond the expectations of others and finding your own identity. The track is all about the importance of drive and independence, understanding that in a strange world, you can only rely on yourself to achieve what you want.

The first thing that stood out to me was the depth of the voice. This depth is not just created by reaching a specific pitch, it is more about delivering a timbre and texture that appeals to the track. So many small aspects in the cadence, delivery, and tone elevate the vocal beyond the sum of its parts. It is truly impactful to hear someone who believes what they are performing. Instead of just singing the words, you can hear SETH SCHAEFFER feeling the emotions behind them. The instrumental has a unique style that really appeals to me. There is this strumming texture which contributes to the rhythm and melody simultaneously. It gives the track a homegrown, personal feel which contrasts the cinematic boldness of the rest of the project. It brings the track back down to the personal, human level. Contrasting this, the high register synth and brass instrumentation builds an alternative side to the soundscape, building up these two incredibly different textural layers for the track to bounce between. These two sides feel like a sonic metaphor for the façade we put on to those around us and the far more raw, unadulterated version of ourselves beyond societal expectation. This track communicates a stunning amount of depth and richness. Its textured sonic tapestry is a pleasure to listen to and tells a story at the same time.
