Little Lies

Little Lies by NYLESSIRA is a track that surprised me. Despite having an AI character at its core, the track felt very human, deeply candid, and honest. By generating the main character with AI, NYLESSIRA has made it more universally applicable so everyone can relate to it. The “little lies” motif and the core of the track’s identity is an excellent and catchy hook that stays in your head long after the track finishes. The repetition of the phrase also connects to this feeling of a concern about a relationship at the back of your head, going round and round without being resolved.

This track perfectly encapsulates this idea of a broken relationship where different people want different things. That heartbreak of wanting something real when the other person is only looking for fun is expressed incredibly articulately. With that being said, the track doesn’t compromise sonically for the narrative. The song keeps the energy up with the use of these bold, high-register synths. They cut through the mix and provide tonal contrast to the deep, booming bass. It feels like these synths and the bass come in alternatively. The drum beat pushes the pace, providing energy and power during certain segments whereas when it drops out, the melody can take centre stage. It feels like the track is balancing itself between the power of the EDM at the core of its sonic identity and the narrative depth defined in the lyrics. This mix keeps the audience on their toes. It is very cathartic as a listener to hear the rhythmic aspects work alongside the melodic attributes to provide a cohesive and connected experience. The harmonies are also excellent and very clear, giving the piece a more unified and bold tone. They emphasise the emotional resonance of the vocals. This track is an entirely unique combo between well crafted storytelling and powerful EDM magic.
