Mirage is a slight evolution of HAUS OF SOUND’s melodic style, pushing the composition in a darker, more emotionally resonant direction. Although their pop-punk roots are brilliant, I love this more enigmatic route for them. A mixture of rap-rock and nu-metal feels like the perfect tonal style for HAUS OF SOUND. This track succeeds through its contrast. It feels like the rap-rock and nu-metal aspects of the composition are wrestling with one another to establish themselves as the dominant sound. As a listener, you’re sitting in awe as these two genres battle it out, hearing the best of each. More than this, each element is made stronger by the juxtaposition of the other. The passionate female lead vocals bring in this confidence and energy to the track’s melodic DNA which is contrasted by the deep, gravelly tone of the spoken word rap rock vocals. The two bounce off one another beautifully while giving the other room to breathe.

Having a track with this many melodic layers on its own is impressive. However, giving each layer a moment to shine and flow between one another is truly exceptional. The guitar is another strong aspect that leads the composition. It controls the melody and also influences the rhythm at the same time through the cadence of each embellishment and run. The mix adds a slight distortion on the guitar which contributes a tonne to the richness of the track’s sonic tapestry. Its textural diversity amplifies the message of the track and builds in a new sense of confidence that redefines its sound as something different to any of the genres it explores. The drumming feels like the unifying factor between the different genres in the track, connecting them with a unifying sense of rhythmic cohesion. I’m impressed by this song’s mixture of sonic influences, coming together to form one bold and confident package. Check it out below!
