My Sanity (feat. Randy McStine) by ROOFTOP SCREAMERS is a powerful anthem about overcoming a toxic relationship and protecting yourself from a partner who twists the truth. Rooftop Screamers have crafted a track that stands as a testament to balancing melodic consistency and narrative. The track develops complex layers of narrative, delivered emphatically with a brilliant vocal performance by Randy McStine. His vocals give the track a gravelly confidence.

He digs into the lower register aspects of the melody and extracts this rich texture that elevates the song as a whole. The performance is emotionally connected and rooted in a deep understanding of the themes present in My Sanity. His tone manages to capture this sense of holding one’s head up high after going through an ordeal. There is a mixture of exhaustion and pride in his voice. The track also benefits from excellent guitar playing. I picked at least three different layers when I listened. There is the rhythmic strumming, often under-appreciated, this aspect straddles the rhythm and melody providing a sonic backbone to both aspects and improving the track overall. It feels as if the quick strumming matches the energy of the delivery and the struggle within the song’s narrative. The other guitar aspect that stood out was the soft lead guitar. This aspect follows the melody from moment to moment, dancing around the vocals and rhythm guitar, providing a tonal separation and adding to the track’s overall sonic landscape. The third aspect of the guitar was the rare electric guitar additions. This feels quite different from the rest of the track’s timbre, with a crunchy clarity and slight fuzz around the sound. It feels as if it is used as punctuation throughout the track, emphasising important moments in the lyrics with its additional, juxtaposing sound.

Overall, this track impressed me with its narrative depth and layered musical execution.
