Tighaline by LAZYWALL is a fascinating project with several different musical influences that make up its unique identity. The band has taken from traditional western rock music as well as North African instrumentation and Middle Eastern musical heritage. Together, these influences have created a sound that beyond being different, really works. The first track, Madaher, introduces us to LAZYWALL’s sound. With excellent guitar playing front to back, the track hits you with a wave of sound that immerses you in the song. The lead guitar twists and turns above the composition, treading a path for the other instrumentation to follow. Some of the runs towards the middle of the track feel truly impactful, exploring unheard melodic angles and elevating the vocal.

The guitar is crisp and high register, contrasting the gritty depth of the vocal. They play off one another brilliantly. Their juxtaposition highlights each of their individual strengths. The harmonies are another standout aspect. They shine through, providing a greater textural variety in the voices and also creating this sense of sonic unity as there are multiple voices singing the same thing. They do a great job of elevating the impact of the vocals. Even though I don’t understand the language, the passion they convey is universal. The next track, Invincible has a very different style of guitar, with a more crunchy, distorted vibe that changes the energy of the track. It feels like the project has dug its roots with the first song and is now looking to elevate its sound. The distortion is fuzzy and confident, almost played like an instrument in itself. It reminded me a little of nineties grunge with its emphatic vocal performance and crunchy, distorted guitar. The vocals ride on the power of the guitar. Instead of contrasting one another, the guitar part almost acts as a harmony, pushing the vocal further with its similarities by bolstering its tone. Overall, this project excels by being different. I’m so glad LAZYWALL didn’t compromise on its tone and confidence and created something that stands on its own as a beautiful and unique rock project.
