Wishes,Dreams by TEMPERATURE FALLS is an indie rock composition full of heart and soul. The track has an enigmatic energy, not giving away too much of its narrative or melodic structure and keeping the listener guessing from beginning to end. I was really impressed with its ability to draw me in on pure emotion. Even though in certain moments the lyrics felt like they were on the back foot, the emotional journey is a constant that stays relevant throughout. This, in large part, is due to the excellent vocal performance. Everything feels like it is in the perfect tonal place. In the verses, when there are more subtle moments, the vocal creeps and slides through the composition. It works beautifully with the restrained strings and the fast paced drums to build this powerful sense of tension. The drums were the first thing that stood out to me.

Normally, in indie rock music, the drums come in slowly, establishing the pace as the track builds up in momentum. In this track, the drums have an alternative purpose and perspective. They push the track forward from the very start. The drums define the sound of the song through fast paced and intense action. It feels like an assertion that the track is going to get dramatic. It is just a matter of time for the rest of the track to sonically catch up with the high pace set by the drums. In the choruses the vocals belt out the lyrics with an energised and evolving sense of confidence. They feel totally different to the enigmatic softness of the verses. The fact that the vocals succeed in both these moments is a testament to the skill of the vocalist. The ethereal synths that back it up during these sections are also a crucial aspect to inject energy in the track. This is a song full of contrast that succeeds at both ends of its vast and detailed sonic landscape. I’m excited to see what TEMPERATURE FALLS does in their upcoming 5th album.
