You'll Never See Me Cry by ETTIE is a track about a powerful moment of self discovery distilled into indie rock. It also has some pop aspects that elevate its sound. The track is about moving on. Sometimes at the end of relationships, it requires bravery to even acknowledge that you can exist without the other person. It can be hard to start from zero again, rebuilding your life. You'll Never See Me Cry establishes the importance of doing just this, starting from scratch and beginning to move on. Instead of focusing on the inherent sadness associated with losing someone, the track builds a sense of fierce bravery instead. It has a unique perspective on love and loss.

The track opens with this slow and delicate piano part and vocal performance. This feels like a purposeful decision to contrast the opening from the confidence of the latter parts of the track. As we get to the chorus the voice opens up. With a more expressive vocal delivery and the use of excellent harmonies, the track truly comes into its own here, expressing the bold courage associated with moving on from a breakup. The harmonies explore the higher and lower end of the track’s melodic register. Together, they establish this wave of sound that immerses the listener into the music as it passes. This textural motif feels symbolic of the truly passionate and powerful identity at the core of the track’s DNA. As a listener, it was cathartic to hear the track reach its full potential in front of me. There are subtle moments on the guitar that also add a tonne to the emotional confidence throughout the song. They pop up in these licks and runs, moving up and down the track's sonic tapestry. They have a grungey distortion that cuts through the mix and gives the track a nineties rock vibe. It adds a nice sense of tonal diversity to the mix overall. I’m impressed with the song’s ability to redefine a difficult time as a challenge to overcome.
