Call Out Post by GABRIELLE MANNA is a track with several different layers. It is an easy-listening folk-pop experience with shades of Noah Kahan while also delivering a confident and bold message about a past relationship that was abusive. Underneath these layers, there is also a subtle and biting sense of humour that makes itself apparent during certain sections.

Opening up with this beautifully simplistic guitar melody, the track establishes its sound from the get-go. It becomes immediately apparent how well MANNA understands pace and the importance of quiet to emphasise sound. There is a sense of reflection in the spaced-out mix and a maturity from MANNA to be able to capture that with sonic space.
The vocals are a standout feature from beginning to end. Even without knowing the song’s background, it is clear that there is a deep emotional connection between the lyrics and the delivery that elevates the song in every aspect. Call Out Post is an interesting balance of confidence and vulnerability which is difficult to nail. Being about abuse in the past, there is a candid rawness to the themes which is a challenge to explore while writing about overcoming it. MANNA walks that line perfectly with her delivery. I think the humour is partially responsible for making the mixture work. The levity brought through the track in lines about being worried about offending a ghost does a great job of showing how far beyond the abuse MANNA has grown while still giving them space to explore the challenges that the abuse caused them.
I’ve mentioned this before in other reviews, but these transmissions of experience are the most impactful part of music. Not only is a song like this often cathartic to write and therefore beneficial to the creator, but it also helps other people in related situations find comfort and courage for the future. Songs like Call Out Post are a net positive that connects creators and listeners in this beautiful sonic exchange.
